During the maintenance window on Thursday, Nov 19, we installed the patch from the vendor to fix the race condition.
Today, Nov 18, 2009 at 13:09 (1:09 PM) we had the same issue with the e-mail system, where it stopped responding. This affected e-mail and WebMail. The e-mail was back in production as of 13:14 (1:14 PM). The cause of the problem is a race condition. The vendor has identified a fix for the problem and we will be applying the fix tomorrow during the maintenance window.
At about 16:15 (4:15 PM) IMAP and POP on the e-mail system stopped responding. The system was recovered and functioning properly as of 16:23 (4:23 PM). Also affected was WebMail. WebMail was functioning again as of 16:25. We are working with the vendor on this issue.
We are currently experiencing problems with IMAP and POP. ITS Staff are working to resolve the problem.
