ITS staff have discovered that the service degradation for POP connections to the email.psu.edu server is due to a failing disc. As a result, the failing disc will need to be removed to properly restore the service.
In order to remove the failing disc, ITS staff will need to turn off the POP service for at least a one hour period, starting at 1:10 PM today. WebMail will remain available, however the service is expected to be slowed.
Starting at 11:10 AM, POP connections to email.psu.edu slowed in response. ITS staff is researching the cause of the issue and will restore service as soon as a solution is reached. No mail is expected to be lost as a result of this service degradation.
