After the power outage this morning, ITS identified a degradation of IPv6 services. One of the DNS servers was unreachable via IPv6; clients configured with multiple IPv6 DNS servers should have remained operational. As of 9:20 AM, the IPv6 services were fully restored.
At this point, all services impacted by this shutdown have been restored.
The power outage at the Telecommunications Building was completed this morning. Equipment providing ITS services began to be powered down around 12:30 AM. The building power was restored at 2:30 AM, and most services were restored by 3:00 AM.
In addition to the impact previously mentioned, we experienced an unexpected disruption to some voice services at University Park. This was resolved by 3:00 AM as well.
ITS continues to investigate a limited number of remaining service disruptions as a result of this power outage. If you continue to experience symptoms you believe to be related, please contact the Network Operations Center at 814-865-4662.
The emergency shutdown of power at the Telecommunications Building has been rescheduled to an earlier timeframe on Wednesday, June 26, 2013. As such, ITS staff will start to power down equipment as of 12:30 AM, with the power outage expected to be completed by 4:00 AM. Once power has been restored, ITS staff will bring equipment online and ensure services are operational.
In regards to the last 3 updates for Telecom Building emergency shutdown the correct date is next Wednesday 6/26.
UEN (Backbone) Connections Affected — Department and College backbone customers who do not use the Redundant Backbone service and are connected to the Telecom1, Telecom6 or Telecom9 routers will be offline on Wednesday, June 26, from 4:30 AM till 7:00 AM due to an emergency power outage at the Telecommunications building. Use the URL below to determine if your connection will be affected. Select University Park for campus, select a building then submit. The results returned will be all backbone connections for that building by organization. If your organization is connected via one of the three routers, listed above, expect your backbone connection to be down next Wednesday between the times listed above.
Wireless Networks Affected - Below listed, in alphabetical order are the 59 buildings where the wireless complete and assist networks will be offline next Wednesday, 6/24, from 4:30 AM till 7:00 AM, due to an emergency power outage scheduled for the Telecommunications building.

Our original post had some inaccuracies regarding what will be affected by this outage. There will be disruption to some phones, wireless LANs and UEN (backbone) customers. We will post a notice, shortly, for each of those three services and the buildings that will be affected.
OPP is scheduling an emergency shutdown of power at the Telecommunications building to perform electrical panel work for a new air conditioner. This work is in the main distribution panel for the building and will require a total shut down of all devices in the Telecommunications building. The outage is scheduled for Wednesday, June 26, from 4:30 AM till 7:00 AM. ITS staff will start powering down systems in the Telecommunications building at 4:30 AM on Wednesday. The University Enterprise Network (backbone), connections to the Internet, and voice systems (telephones) should remain functional through the shutdown. Communications to many of the campuses on the statewide network will be down while this work takes place. All services and systems should be restored by 7:00 AM Wednesday morning.
