Starting at 4:00 on Sept 1, users may have been getting:
This was caused by an incompatibility between our Anti-Virus definitions and our Anti-Virus software. We update our Anti-Virus definitions daily. The solution was to upgrade the Anti-Virus software and re-update our Anti-Virus definitions. This was completed by 8:00. The services that were affect were, smtp.psu.edu, lists.psu.edu and incoming e-mail to psu.edu.
We will be working with the vendor of the Anti-Virus software to ensure this does not happen again. We have disabled automatic Anti-Virus definition updates at this time. We will update manually until we have a root cause of this issue resolved.
