The restore finished at 00:30 and all the file systems are all fully restored.

One of the two file systems was restored as of 9:05pm. It is estimated that the second file system should be fully restored around midnight.

The estimated time of restoration for affected users is now 9pm.

We anticipate that the affected user\'s home folders should be fully restored by 11pm. A more precise estimate of completion will be posted to this alert around 4pm. The restoration process is taking such a long time as we are restoring over 6.5 million files.

With the assistance of vendor support, ITS staff have determined that the multiple hardware faults underlying today\'s service issues are unrecoverable. Disaster recovery steps have been enacted, and data recovery is expected to last into tomorrow. Further information will be added to this alert as progress is made.

By about 4:30 p.m., ITS staff have restored access to data for all of PASS except for 12.5% of the user\'s home folders via the CIFS PASS Gateway service (win.pass.psu.edu, smb.pass.psu.edu, etc.). By 5:15 p.m. nfs.pass.psu.edu and sftp.pass.psu.edu were also restored to functionality, except for the affected home folders; all web hosting services are expected to be functional as well at this time. ITS staff are continuing to work on the problem.

sftp.personal.psu.edu

Beginning at 12:00, some services dependent on PASS experienced partial outages due to a hardware failure.

Staff are currently working with the vendor to replace the failed component.
