Update on September 19, 2016 at 12:22PM

Starting Friday, September 16, and continuing through Sunday, September 18, intermittent network outages affecting phone, internet, video conferencing, and other services occurred at all Penn State campus locations. Information Technology (IT) staff members have worked with the external router vendor to address the problem and all services are currently operating without interruption. IT staff will continue to monitor the network to ensure remediation efforts have been successful.

As of 10:45 PM today, ITS has upgraded all routers with new code. At this time the network appears to be stabilized. ITS will continue to monitor the network.

As of 6:30 PM today, ITS continues to work with the vendor to return stability to the University Enterprise Network. New code is being loaded to mitigate the issue. Brief interruptions to sites will occur during this time.

At of 10:15 AM, the University Enterprise Network entered a unstable state. Voice and Data Connections may be disrupted. ITS and the vendor continue to troubleshoot the issue. We continue experience trouble isolating the root cause. ServiceNOW users should Follow INC0397165 for the latest updates.

As of 9:30PM the University Enterprise Network entered a unstable state. Voice and Data Connections may be disrupted.

The University Enterprise network has remained stable overnight. ITS Continues to monitor the health of the UEN while the vendor is investigating the root cause.

As of 6:28PM The University Enterprise Network appears stable. We continue to work with the vendor to determine the root cause. The vendor has indicated multiple customers besides Penn State have experienced the same problem.

The University Enterprise network remains in an unstable state, we are working with hardware vendors to isolate the problem. Users will continue to experience voice and data interruptions.

Original Alert

At 4:44 PM ITS observed alarms on many UEN routers across campus. Many Line cards appear to be rebooting causing loss of all university network services.

ITS is investigating the cause and trying to restore service.
